Blackbeard's Cruises runs a variety of biology and ecology programs on its liveaboard sailboats geared towards educational groups, from research based trips chartered by a professor and students, to study abroad field courses for marine science classes, and educational summer trips for high school students! We have worked with several college groups on a yearly basis, including George Mason University and Cornell University, and have the SCUBA diving, snorkeling, fishing, and shore-based capabilities to host elementary, high school, college and graduate level scientists. Groups chartering a boat for a field course or research project can tailor their liveaboard experience to fit the goals of the group, visiting dive sites of particular ecological interest, taking land excursions to study the terrestrial tropical ecology in the Bahamas' well protected national parks, and even electing to learn boat handling and seamanship skills! A variety of projects are already underway that professors and students can get involved in, including Diadema relocation, invasive species studies, and coral reef survey programs sponsored by the Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF). Student groups will enjoy the variety of ecological habitats available for investigation, the interesting and knowledgeable perspectives of the crew, and the bonding experience of living and working together on the high seas!
